What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin (BTC) is the first cryptocurrency, launched in 2009. It runs on its own proof-of-work network with a fixed supply limit of 21 million coins.

ChainATM does not currently offer Bitcoin (BTC) as a direct purchase in the app. This guide only explains what to check about the asset. Whether a swap into BTC is possible is shown only by the current proposal in the app.

What to check about BTC

  • Layer-1 tokens depend on whether their network is used: fees, validators and the applications built on it. Their prices are volatile.
  • BTC can exist on more than one network, and the versions are not interchangeable. Check the network in the proposal. Sending to an address on the wrong network can lose the funds.
  • Bitcoin runs on its own network. On other networks, BTC is usually a wrapped token that depends on its custodian or bridge.
  • ChainATM adds no fee or markup of its own. Network, provider and bridge costs still apply. Some are built into the quoted amount rather than listed separately, so check what you pay and what you receive before you confirm.

Can I get BTC through a swap?

Whether a swap into BTC is possible for your network and amount is shown only by the current proposal in the app. Nothing is executed until you confirm. A typed or spoken request is not approval. In the current reviewed flows, you see a proposal and confirm it in the app before execution is requested.

What does ChainATM charge?

ChainATM adds no fee or markup of its own. Network, provider and bridge costs still apply. Some are built into the quoted amount rather than listed separately, so check what you pay and what you receive before you confirm. Each message you send to the AI in chat uses 1 credit.

Does ChainATM hold my BTC?

ChainATM does not operate an omnibus customer wallet or hold crypto on its own balance sheet. The default embedded wallet is provided by Privy. After you confirm a supported action, execution may use ChainATM's authenticated backend and Privy's wallet infrastructure, or request approval from a connected external wallet, depending on the route. A confirmation screen is not proof that every action is signed only on your device or universally gated by a passkey.
