Legal & Licensing

Last Updated: August 24, 2026

Plain answers to the questions users, partners and investors ask about how ChainATM is set up under EU crypto rules. This page is general information, not legal advice; the Terms of Service govern your use of ChainATM.

Is ChainATM a crypto exchange or a broker?

No. ChainATM is software: an AI agent that helps you operate your own wallet. ChainATM never holds your money, never takes the other side of a trade with its own capital, and does not operate a trading platform or order book.

Who holds my crypto?

You do. ChainATM wallets are self-custodial and secured by your passkey. We never have access to your keys in usable form and cannot move your assets. Under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR, Recital 83), providers of non-custodial wallet software are understood to fall outside the regulation's scope.

Who processes my fiat purchase?

Fiat-to-crypto purchases and identity verification on ChainATM are handled inside Coinbase's own flow. Availability and provider terms depend on your region. The crypto you buy is delivered to your own self-custodial wallet.

Who executes my swaps and transfers?

You do, on-chain. ChainATM prepares the transaction (routing via LI.FI across decentralized liquidity), shows you exactly what will happen, and you sign it with your own wallet. ChainATM never executes against its own balance sheet. Nothing moves without your explicit confirmation.

Does ChainATM hold a MiCAR / CASP licence?

Our assessment is that ChainATM operates today as a non-custodial software provider: the regulated crypto-asset services in the flow are performed by licensed providers (see above). On that basis ChainATM does not itself custody assets, exchange crypto-assets against its own capital, or operate a trading platform.

What are credits? Are they e-money?

Credits are prepaid usage of ChainATM's software features. They are denominated per action, personal to your account, non-transferable, and, outside of statutory refund rights, not redeemable for money. Credits are not a deposit, not e-money and not a claim on funds: your purchase money for crypto never touches ChainATM at all.

Any applicable provider, network, credit, or subscription cost is shown before you confirm or purchase.

Which company is behind ChainATM, and which law applies?

ChainATM is built and operated by Noctra Labs UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Trier, Germany. Company details are in the Imprint; how we handle data is in the Privacy Policy.

Risk notice

Crypto-assets are volatile and may lose value. Self-custody means you control your wallet, and you are responsible for your passkey and device. ChainATM provides software and information, not investment advice; nothing in the app or on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell any asset.
